In this week’s IT Modernization news, analyst group Gartner provides CIOs with a six step framework for cost optimization during the Coronavirus pandemic. Specifically, Chris Ganly, senior research director at the group notes that, “Organizations should approach cost management as an expansive effort that can have immediate and long-term significance to business performance.” To help guide IT leaders, Gartner unveils the six areas to focus to achieve this outcome as, potential financial benefit, business impact, time requirement, degree of organizational risk, degree of technical risk, and investment requirement.

DevOps News

  • GitLab acquires Peach Tech and Fuzzit. With the acquisitions GitLab gains protocol fuzz testing and dynamic application security testing API testing, and a continuous fuzz testing solution providing coverage-guided testing. According to the company, the acquisitions make “GitLab’s DevSecOps offering the first security solution to offer both coverage-guided and behavioral fuzz testing techniques as well as the first true DevSecOps platform to shift fuzz testing left with these new offerings being made available within the GitLab CI/CD environment.”
  • Sticking with the theme, Qualitest launches Qualisense, its suite of Machine Learning-powered tools and services. And, if you enjoy the topic, this week Gene Kim shares the latest episode of Idealcast in which he revisits with Elisabeth Hendrickson some of the insights around testing from the early 2000’s.
  • In a blog this week, Microsoft shares the latest updates from Microsoft Build for Azure Monitor, including the preview availability of Azure Monitor Application Insights log availability on Log Analytics Workspaces, GA of Azure Monitor for Storage and Azure Cosmos DB, and preview for Key Vault and Azure Cache for Redis.
  • Microsoft releases several updates to its database offerings, including previews of transparent data encryption with customer-managed keys for Azure SQL database; redirection support for the mysqlnd PHP driver that connects Azure Database for MariaDB; data encryption for Azure Database for PostgreSQL, single server; and machine learning on Azure SQL Managed Instances.
  • CloudBees heralds the coming of a hardened version of CloudBees CI that meets the US DoD specifications for security.
  • Rancher announces GA of Longhorn, its cloud container storage solution that supports the development of stateful applications within Kubernetes.
  • Harness unveils Harness Continuous Efficiency to help enterprises more effectively manage and optimize cloud costs. The tools helps finance teams move cloud cost responsibility to those using cloud resources with self-service visibility.
  • Siemplify releases its eponymously named Siemplify Cloud. Providing security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR), according to a press release, the solution helps connect to native cloud threat detection technologies, traditional detection tools, such as SIEM and EDR, and on-premises tools, to bridge the gap between cloud and on-premises security operations.

AWS News 

  • AWS announces AWS CodeArtifact, a fully managed software artifact repository service that allows operators to to securely store, publish, and share packages used in the software development process.
  • AWS Shield Advanced introduces proactive engagement for DDoS Response Teams. The new feature allows DRTs to proactively engage around all resource types that Shield Advanced supports.
  • Amazon unveils the AWS Service Management Connector for ServiceNow (FKA AWS Service Catalog Connector). The newly named connector allows operators to integrate features for AWS Service Catalog, AWS Config, and AWS Systems Manager within ServiceNow. According to a blog announcement, ServiceNow admins benefit with easier cloud provisioning and resource management, while users benefit from a streamlined AWS product request process.
  • Financial service organizations offering solutions to customers like digital wallets supported with 3-D secure services may be pleased to hear that AWS has achieved PCI 3-D Secure (3DS) certification, enabling them to gain their own PCI 3DS compliance status.
